Online Workshop: Structured Product Design

Port Labs held a workshop to help participants understand how best to design and maintain their product over the course of its lifecycle. We laid out a structured, systematic approach which applies to a wide range of product development.  Dozens of product development entrepreneurs joined Kyle Valiton (Port Labs Engineering) and Gregory Theyel (Guest Speaker, BioMedical Manufacturing Group) to discuss this process.

Structured design always starts with a clear understanding of the needs of the customer and/or user. A good product will directly address those needs in its basic design and function - the product’s features. Features translate directly to physical attributes of the product, which directly drive cost of production.

Entrepreneurs working in a range of industries from software to soft goods participated in the conversation, and learned how to apply this model to the development and evolution of their products.

This cycle was illustrated in a real-world example of iterative product development.

If you weren’t able to attend the workshop, but want to understand better how to use this structure to improve your design process, please contact us - we’re here to help!
